1. GHANA CONSULATE-GENERAL, JEDDAH
PROFILE OF CONSUL-GENERAL
The Consul-General, H. E. Tahiru Iddrisu, is a product of the Legon Centre of International Affairs and Diplomacy (LECIAD), Ghana, and University of Ghana, Legon.
The Consul-General holds an M.A in International Relations, Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science with Study of Religions as well as a certificate in Diplomatic Practices from Egmont Royal Institute for International Relations, Brussels, Belgium.
H.E. Mr. Iddrisu is a career diplomat, serving in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration. Prior to being appointed to his current position as Consul-General, he served in Ghana’s High Commission in New Delhi, India from 2012 to 2016. He was Head of Chancery at Ghana High commission in Freetown, Sierra Leone from 2019 to 2020, and Deputy Director of Middle East Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2017 until 2019.
H.E. Tahiru Iddrisu is married with three kids.
THE OFFICE OF THE CONSUL GENERAL.
The Consul-General is the highest ranking official and the Head of Ghana’s Mission in Jeddah i.e. The Consulate-General of the Republic of Ghana. He is assisted by the Consul and Vice Consul all of whom are all career consular corps.
Among other several duties, the Consul-General initiates and takes some final administrative decisions including approving of expenses of the general welfare of the Chancery building and staff. Other major administrative decisions are referred to the Head of the Embassy of the Republic of Ghana, Riyadh.
ADMINISTRATION
This section consists of an Administrative Assistant who undertakes preliminary reviews passport and issuance of visa stickers as well as other duties assigned by the Consul-General. This section also consists of a Translator, a consular assistant and a secretary.
CONSULAR SECTION.
The Consular section operates within the confines of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 1963. The various roles handled at the consular section are:
- Issuance of Emergency Travel Certificates (ETC).
- Visa issuance.
- Authentication of legal documents.
- Renewal of expired Ghana passports.
- Consular assistance to Ghanaian national in Prisons, Deportation Centres, Hospitals and any other detention centres.
- Medical repatriation and death related issues.
- Registration of Ghanaians in Jeddah and its environs.
